By way of explanation, I was in school during the Sept. 11 attacks and the One Show College Competition responded with a brief “to sell America to the world”. I worked with a great copywriter that came up with some terrific copy and I STRUGGLED to art direct it. After dozens and dozens and dozens of layouts, I decided to use an old typewriter. The only photoshopping I did was to scan the images in. Under-art directing proved to be pretty hard to do. This campaign won a merit award.

Did the Roman Empire feed its starving neighbors? Did the Vikings bring medical aid along on their voyage? Did Napoleon bolster foreign economies? As the last superpower on earth, is America compelled to be benevolent? Or does it just choose to be?
